Nutritional Consulting (Cont.):I believe strongly in complementation between your M.D. and the information I will give to you. If you have health insurance, it's less cost for you to get blood tests at a clinic than with a holistic practitioner. One test is a comprehensive metabolic panel, which measures important minerals, liver enzymes, and your fasting blood glucose level, among other things. Ask your doctor to include magnesium, homocysteine, and CRP in the test. Ask if they include iron and phosphorus sampling in the test; if not, add them as well. Also ask for a WBC panel, a cholesterol panel, find out your blood type, and finally a TSH test, along with additional T3 and free thyroxin tests.
The above tests will give us a lot of information about where to start in researching information for you to use to improve your health. It may also reveal some underlying serious problem.
My services are available both in person and on the internet. The prices are at the bottom of webpage 4. There is a 2-page questionnaire dealing with family health background, your personal physical/mental concerns, previous illnesses, your typical weekly diet, and what drugs and/or supplements that you are currently taking. There is also a 2-page yes/no questionniare about what metabolic type you fit into. After obtaining this information, I can give you a certain amount of information about what type of diet and supplementation may help you, both in general and with certain problems. The initial meeting, whether it is in person or over the internet, is $60/hr; usually $30 for a 1/2 hr.
You can then decide on specialized research on your particular situation. The research often will take around two hours, followed by a second meeting. I will most often have someone try a certain diet and supplement combination for a few months and see how it works, before initiating any additional research for the client. After this time period, if there are still some issues that are unresolved, there can be somewhat more aggressive and varied therapies that can be tried; however, your doctor should be notified before initiating most of these. Most clients are satisfied with the initial 3-month trial of the diet and supplement combination, and do not request additional research, although I certainly can do this for someone that is continuing to have problems.
Along with a diet and supplement plan, I also recommend that the client get aerobic exercise, a certain amount of sunlight, drink spring water, getting at least seven hours of sleep per night, and several other recommendations. These general recommendations are all included in a handout that will be either given to the client in a face-to-face meeting or attached to an e-mail in an internet meeting.
I am very interested in the interaction between genetics and personality, especially the correlation between dietary metabolic types and personality types. Therefore, I suggest you go to the website www.humanmetrics.com and find out your (tentative) personality type. This may also help me to find out your metabolic type, as well, so it has practical value. The 70-question test on that website is the one that I would like you to take; look around the rest of the website for your own curiosity.
Feel free to e-mail me with any simple questions about diet, supplements, or biochemistry.
